I QUIT

If you are like me you don’t like quitters. “Finish what you start,” my mom used to say. So yesterday, after consulting with my oncologist, I quit the chemo treatment for the present time.

The cumulative affect of the chemo has caused me to be so fatigued that I’m barely able to function other than to sit in a lazy boy and read a book. Also, after six months of clinical trial chemo, my tumor continues to grow.

So what’s next? In August I’ll return to the Cancer Center in Tucson to be evaluated. It is amazing that the doctors say that I’m very healthy except for the cancer. Meanwhile, the tumor grows, my backache increases, and I get to experience more of God’s grace. So where do I go for hope? Doctors? Diets? More drugs? The psalmist said in Psalm 62:5, “...my hope comes from Him (God)...” Sounds like a winner, so I’ll continue trusting in Him!

Thanks again to each of you for your concern, prayer support, CDs, cards, notes, emails, suggestions. Although my hope is in God, you are my flesh and blood encouragers.

  1. That is a big decision. I wish I could tell you what I really think you are going through. I know it is so personal, but it really also has something to do with your relationship with God. Alma and I think about what you are going through and talk about it. She told me how strong you really are. If that cancer came so late in your life, just when you were so immersed in the Lord, I think I know why. Rest assured you will have something to be glad about in the future.

Some few months ago, I e mailed Mary and sent her a copy of something that I would want to publish sometime in the future but would like to share it in its semi-final form with people that I have come across in my not so easy walk with the Lord. It is almost ten years now since I began to write it. I had wanted to discuss it with knowledgeable people in church but it seems it requires some resource. Anyway, I have twitted, blogged, commented using it in various forums over the internet, including the Jewish Journal and have been happy that my comments had
oftentimes been met with so much reaction, particularly about the future of Israel and us, who are ingrafted branches and share in her inheritance.

I'd be very glad if you could comment on it.
